How do you install ARMCO Barriers?
ARMCO Barriers have long set the standard for steel safety barrier protection. They protect people, assets and property against injury and damage from a moving vehicle. Because of the vital role they play, it’s essential that they are installed professionally by a credited company.
Here at CT Safety Barriers we have been manufacturing and installing Armco Barriers for over a decade. Although we’d always recommend you hire a professional to install your Armco Barrier, we wanted to demonstrate the intricate process that goes into installing this product.
Below, we have highlighted a general Armco Barrier installation guide that relates to the installation of these ultra-secure safety barrier products.
Step 1 – Connecting the Components
The first step in installing Armco Barriers is connecting the various components together where they overlap. In most cases, the barriers will simply bolt together using various sizes of fixings.
Step 2 – Main Beams
Next, we turn our attention to the main beam sections. Generally, these beams have an overall length of 3500mm with an effective length of 3200mm (an overlap of 300mm with the connecting Armco Barrier rail).
The standard thickness of the Armco Barrier rail is 3mm. This is to ensure compliance with the relevant standards. These beams come with pre-drilled holes that perfectly line up so that the components can be connected easily.
Step 3 – Supporting Posts
For your Armco Barrier to stand firm after the installation, the supporting posts need to be concreted into the ground. If there is already a concrete surface in place, you can use base plated posts. However, concreting the posts directly into the ground is always a preferred option.
When digging the required holes, it’s essential that the correct equipment is used and health and safety procedures are followed at all times. If a decision is made to use the base plated posts, it’s important to ensure that the surface is thick enough to accommodate the screws. The level also needs to be enough to allow for the posts to be fixed.
Much like the beams, the supporting posts come with pre-drilled holes. These should line up perfectly with the drilled holes on the beam. Each beam will need at least three posts attached in order to support it. The posts at either end of a beam will serve as the first initial support for the next section.
The corner sections of the Armco Barrier will need at least two posts to support them.
Step 4 – Fixing The Posts
We’d always focus on installing one end of the barrier first and then gradually move onto the next, fixing the posts one at a time.
Step 5 – Attaching Corners & Terminal Ends
Once all the posts have been fixed to the Armco Beams, it’s time to move on to attaching any corner or terminal end components. The most common type of terminal for a safety barrier is the fishtail end (type A). However, if the ends need to be pedestrian friendly, pedestrian ends or plastic end caps can be fitted to the Armco Barrier.
All steel type terminal ends can be powder coated to any colour. At CT Safety Barriers Ltd we have now introduced a new range of polymer terminal ends. We also now have Armco Safety Barrier ends as well as polymer fishtail, pedestrian ends and plastic end caps for posts. These are available in both yellow and black.
Armco Barriers can be aligned in different directions through the use of Armco Corners. These corners are available in 90 and 45 degrees variations. However, if you need your Armco Barrier to be aligned at a custom angle, the flexible corners are used. Armco Barrier corners are available in both internal and external formats.
